Published 25 August 2026

Brazilian tennis star Joao Fonseca has withdrawn from the 2026 US Open due to an abdominal injury, the 20-year-old announced on Tuesday, August 25. The world No. 26 confirmed his decision in a statement posted on Instagram, marking the latest high-profile absence from the men's singles draw at the year's final Grand Slam tournament. "After undergoing tests and starting treatment for my abdomen, it became clear to me and my team that I need more time to fully recover so I can compete at a high level," Fonseca wrote. "Unfortunately, this means I won't be able to play in the US Open. It was not an easy decision to make, as it is a very special tournament for me.
