JNU Professor Accused of Trading Marks for Favors

Around eleven students have accused a professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) of sexual harassment, alleging that he offered higher marks in exchange for sexual favors and made inappropriate advances. The students have lodged complaints with the university’s Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), which has begun an investigation into the matter. The allegations include sexually suggestive remarks made during viva examinations, which took place in early May. Students claim the professor linked additional marks to whether they would accept his sexual advances. The issue first came to light after one student shared her experience in a private WhatsApp group following the examinations, prompting other students to come forward with similar accounts. Beyond the viva examinations, students also allege that the professor invited them to gatherings at his campus residence, where he allegedly made sexual advances and inappropriate comments. Some complaints also accuse him of making lewd remarks during regular classes. The university had been on a 45-day semester break following the viva examinations.
