Jason Kelce apologizes after second broadcast slip in a week

Published 7 October 2026

Former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce apologized during an NFL Network broadcast in London after referring to the Washington Commanders by the team’s former nickname, his second on-air correction in less than a week. The earlier slip came during ESPN’s Monday Night Football halftime coverage, when he referred to the Eagles as “we” and apologized to Chicago Bears fans after colleague Pat McAfee pointed it out. The London incident occurred during the Colts-Commanders game on October 4. While analyzing Washington’s defense, Kelce used the former name as he described the team’s tackling. Co-commentator Dave Pasch corrected him, and Kelce apologized to Washington. The exchange followed a lighthearted wager among Pasch, Kelce and fellow broadcaster Kurt Warner about which of them would be the first to use the name, according to the broadcast account. Kelce said he had almost made it through without doing so. Washington retired the former name in 2020, used the Washington Football Team name for the 2020 and 2021 seasons, and adopted the Commanders name in 2022. Kelce spent his 13-year NFL career with Philadelphia, which faced Washington regularly as a division rival.
