Jamie Lee Curtis delivered an emotional tribute to her late friend Rob Reiner during the In Memoriam segment at the 78th Emmy Awards on Monday, September 14, 2026. Curtis, who was visibly tearful, honored the actor and director by referencing his iconic role as Michael "Meathead" Stivic on All in the Family. "Last year, we lost another cherished legend, our beloved Meathead, Rob Reiner," Curtis told the audience at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. "He was generous and kind and funny as hell and a friend to all." The tribute came just one week after Reiner posthumously won a Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as restaurant consultant Albert Schnurr on the FX series The Bear. Curtis noted that this win set a new record for the longest gap between acting Emmy victories at 48 years, surpassing the previous record held by his father, Carl Reiner. Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found fatally stabbed in their Brentwood, California, home in December 2025. Their son, Nick Reiner, has been indicted on two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances and has pleaded not guilty.
