Ivanna Ortiz indicted on 14 counts in Rihanna shooting case
A Los Angeles County grand jury has indicted Ivanna Lisette Ortiz on 14 felony counts, including attempted murder, in connection with a March 8 shooting at Rihanna’s home. Ortiz pleaded not guilty after the indictment was unsealed Wednesday, September 30, advancing the case toward trial while leaving the allegations to be tested in court. The indictment includes one count of attempted murder, 10 counts of assault with an assault weapon and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper. It replaces earlier charges, which were dismissed after the indictment was returned. The grand jury returned its indictment on June 18, but it remained sealed while Ortiz underwent psychiatric evaluations. A judge ruled Tuesday that Ortiz is competent to stand trial, allowing the proceedings to move forward. Reports detailing the evaluations remain sealed, and no public explanation of their findings has been provided. Ortiz appeared in court Wednesday and spoke only with her attorney, who entered the not-guilty plea on her behalf. The judge ordered her held on bail; reports gave different amounts, either $2.6 million or $2.65 million.
