Isaiah Washington Says Wife Died After Hemorrhagic Stroke

Published 5 October 2026

Actor Isaiah Washington said his wife, Jenisa Garland, died in June 2025 after suffering a massive hemorrhagic stroke. In an Instagram post published October 3, Washington said Garland collapsed on May 31, 2025, and died on June 9 without recovering. The account of her death and its cause in the reports is based on Washington’s statement; no separate medical confirmation was provided. Washington said the loss came as a shock to him and their family. He also urged people to take severe headaches seriously and seek a brain scan when possible, saying headaches can be a warning sign of a more serious condition. His comments were advice drawn from his experience, not a diagnosis of symptoms in other people. Washington said he and Garland had been married for 29 years and raised three children together: Tyme, Iman and Isaiah V. Garland, described in the reports as a former fashion designer, largely stayed out of public view. Washington said she had been gone for 13 months when he wrote the post, consistent with the death date he gave. The couple married on Valentine’s Day in 1996, according to the reports.
