Iran Strikes US Bases in Jordan, UAE in Retaliation
Iran launched coordinated retaliatory strikes against U.S. military bases in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates on Monday, August 31, 2026, in response to a U.S. attack on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz that killed and wounded Iranian personnel. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Iranian Army announced the operations, which targeted key infrastructure at the King Hussein and Al-Azraq bases in Jordan and the Al Minhad Air Base in the UAE. The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated the initial strike on Larak Island was conducted to eliminate an "imminent threat" to commercial shipping in the strategic waterway.
