Iran's Foreign Minister to Visit Beijing Ahead of Trump-Xi Summit

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is scheduled to visit Beijing on Wednesday for talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced. The meeting comes as China positions itself as a potential diplomatic intermediary in the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States, and just days before Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to travel to Washington for a summit with President Donald Trump. The visit, confirmed by Beijing on Tuesday, will see Araghchi and Wang Yi discuss regional developments and broader international issues. The two ministers last met on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in New Delhi earlier this month. The talks are viewed as a significant diplomatic engagement ahead of Xi's planned meeting with Trump on September 24, where the Iran war is expected to be a key topic. China has recently signaled a willingness to play a greater role in resolving the conflict. During the BRICS summit, Xi urged member nations to act as peacemakers in the Middle East and reiterated a four-point plan for de-escalation centered on peaceful coexistence and respect for sovereignty.
