Iran Pledges Reciprocity if US Revives June Deal

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian offered a diplomatic opening to the United States on Tuesday, stating that Tehran would "immediately" reciprocate if Washington returns to its commitments under a June memorandum of understanding aimed at ending their ongoing war. The remarks, delivered at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, came just days after the two nations exchanged direct military strikes for the first time in over a month. Pezeshkian's comments, reported by Iranian state media, represent a clear olive branch following a recent escalation. "I state explicitly that if the United States returns to its commitments under the aforementioned memorandum of understanding, the Islamic Republic of Iran will immediately take reciprocal action," he said. The president emphasized that war is in no one's interest and that Tehran remains open to a negotiated solution. The June memorandum of understanding, signed by Pezeshkian and U.S. President Donald Trump, was designed to set the stage for final peace talks and included provisions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global oil supplies.
