Iran and Oman Propose Joint Strait of Hormuz Corridor

Published 26 August 2026

Iran and Oman have proposed a temporary joint shipping corridor and a collaborative mine-clearing operation to restore safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, following high-level talks in Tehran on August 25, 2026. The initiative aims to address the severe disruption to global shipping through one of the world's most critical energy chokepoints, which has been largely paralyzed since the outbreak of a wider regional conflict in late February. The discussions were held between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi.
