Ipswich host Liverpool in Premier League clash

Published 4 September 2026

Ipswich Town will host Liverpool at Portman Road on Friday evening, September 4, with both teams seeking a crucial Premier League victory. The match, scheduled for an 8 p.m. kickoff, pits a newly-promoted side eager to recover from a heavy defeat against a Liverpool team still searching for its first win of the season under new head coach Andoni Iraola. Ipswich enter the fixture in 12th place, one spot above Liverpool in the table. Their campaign began with a dramatic 2-1 home win over Sunderland, but they suffered a 5-2 loss at Manchester United last weekend. Manager Gary O’Neill confirmed that Ipswich will be without at least three first-team regulars. Jaden Philogene is recovering from an ankle problem, while Jack Taylor and Azor Matusiwa are sidelined with knee and thigh injuries, respectively. However, O’Neill provided a positive update on Florentino Luis and Emerson, stating both are in contention for selection after being earlier doubts. Liverpool, sitting in 13th, have drawn their opening two matches 2-2 against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest.
