Iowa Republican Hinson calls for immediate end to Iran war

Iowa Rep. Ashley Hinson, the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Joni Ernst, called Monday for the war with Iran to be brought to a successful and immediate end, citing the burden of high fuel prices on Iowans. In a post to X on Monday morning, Hinson wrote that Iowans are being squeezed and should not have to foot the bill at the pump or the checkout line for the war in Iran. She urged suspending the gas tax, pausing diesel exports, unleashing E15, reinstating the 1-gallon biodiesel tax credit, and creating a diesel relief program to help farmers and truckers facing high costs, while ensuring the highway trust fund is replenished. She did not mention President Donald Trump by name. The statement came as diesel prices reached record highs. AAA data showed diesel averaging about $6.51 to $6.53 per gallon, the highest recorded average, with gasoline at about $4.48. Iowa's agricultural sector, which ranks second nationally by the value of production according to September federal data, has faced strain from higher fuel and fertilizer costs tied to the conflict.
