Infantino Proposes FIFA Governance Review Amid Pressure

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has proposed an independent review of the organization's governance and a consultation with member associations on strengthening decision-making, in a move aimed at quelling growing pressure following the collapse of his controversial investment plan. In a letter sent to FIFA officials, Infantino stated he is "fully open to discussing reforms" and outlined two key proposals for consideration at the FIFA Council meeting scheduled for October 15. The proposals come after significant backlash forced Infantino to abandon the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) initiative, which would have allowed private investors to acquire stakes in FIFA competitions, including the World Cup. The plan prompted strong opposition from UEFA and other confederations, with UEFA threatening to boycott FIFA competitions and later preparing criminal legal proceedings against Infantino in US courts over the proposal. Infantino insisted in his letter that the abandoned FFE plan "did not involve relinquishing FIFA's control or authority over sporting decisions.
