India to Host Inaugural Women's Champions Trophy in 2027

The International Cricket Council announced on Wednesday that India will host the inaugural Women's Champions Trophy, a T20 tournament scheduled for February 14 to 28, 2027. The event was originally awarded to Sri Lanka but was relocated due to ongoing governance issues within Sri Lanka Cricket. The matches will be held at two venues: the Cricket Club of India's Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai and the newly inaugurated Vadodara International Cricket Stadium. The ICC stated that Sri Lanka was stripped of hosting rights because the national cricket board continues to implement reforms recommended at the ICC's Annual Conference in July. Sri Lanka Cricket is currently overseen by an interim Transformation Committee appointed by the government, a situation the ICC prohibits. This marks the second time in recent years Sri Lanka has lost a global event due to administrative concerns, following the relocation of the 2024 Men's Under-19 World Cup to South Africa. The decision to award the tournament to India was ratified by the ICC Board on September 1.
