India Sends Fifth Relief Shipment to Flood-Hit Nepal

India dispatched its fifth tranche of relief supplies to flood-ravaged Nepal on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, bringing the total aid airlifted by New Delhi to 68.5 tonnes as the death toll from last week's disaster surpassed 1,000. The latest shipment, flown to Kathmandu, carried 5.5 tonnes of essential medicines and an 11-member rescue team equipped with specialized gear for search and rescue operations. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced the deployment, stating the aircraft had departed with personnel and medical supplies to support Nepal's ongoing response. This latest consignment builds upon a sustained Indian relief effort that began hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with his Nepalese counterpart, Balendra Shah, on August 26, the day the flash floods struck. Modi assured Shah of India's full support and all possible humanitarian assistance at that time. The floods, which originated in the Bhotekoshi River area of Rasuwa, have caused widespread destruction across the Himalayan nation. According to Nepalese authorities, the death toll has risen to more than 1,000 as rescue workers continue to recover bodies from affected areas.
