Indian archer Dhiraj Bommadevara made history on September 13, 2026, by becoming the first Indian male recurve archer to win an individual Archery World Cup Final title. The 25-year-old secured the victory in Saltillo, Mexico, after a tense shootoff against Japan's Junya Nakanishi. The final match was tightly contested, with the score tied 5-5 after five sets. Bommadevara, who had trailed earlier in the match, won the decisive fifth set 28-27 to force the shootoff. Under pressure, he shot a perfect 10, while Nakanishi scored a 9, handing Bommadevara the championship. "From the start of the match until the very end, I kept one thing in mind I had to fight right up to the final arrow," Bommadevara said after the victory. "I did fight, and I am incredibly proud. I managed to achieve what I had worked so hard for." The win marks a significant resurgence for Bommadevara following a dip in form after the Paris 2024 Olympics.
