India Honors Engineer Visvesvaraya on National Engineers Day

India marked National Engineers' Day on September 15, 2026, honoring the birth anniversary of Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, a pioneering engineer and statesman whose legacy continues to shape the nation's infrastructure and technological progress. The annual observance celebrates the contributions of engineers to innovation, infrastructure, and national development. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Visvesvaraya on the occasion, describing him as a figure whose "engineering genius and nation-building vision continue to inspire." In a post on X, Modi extended greetings to engineers across the country, calling them "Karmayogis" who transform ideas into tangible achievements. He highlighted their role in building, innovating, and creating solutions for a better tomorrow. Visvesvaraya, born in 1861 in Muddenahalli village, Karnataka, is widely regarded as the Father of Modern Mysore. He served as the Diwan of Mysore from 1912 to 1918, where he spearheaded numerous infrastructural and developmental projects. His contributions to flood management, irrigation, and engineering are particularly noted.
