India Condemns Houthi Attacks on Saudi Oil Facilities

India has condemned a series of missile and drone attacks carried out by Iran-backed Houthi militants on oil installations and civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia. The strikes, which occurred on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, injured 73 civilians, including women and children, according to Saudi authorities. The attacks targeted several locations in southern Saudi Arabia, including Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, and Najran. Saudi officials reported fires at energy facilities and temporary disruptions to operations at some sites. Saudi oil giant Aramco was among the entities reportedly targeted. In response to a media query on Wednesday, September 9, India's External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the attacks on Saudi sovereign territory, particularly those affecting civilian and economic facilities, were unacceptable. He added that such actions undermine regional security and stability and threaten freedom of navigation in the Bab al-Mandab strait, a critical maritime passage.
