India, Bangladesh in talks for PM Rahman's November visit

India and Bangladesh have begun diplomatic talks to schedule a bilateral visit by Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to New Delhi, with officials exploring a window in the latter half of November. The discussions mark an effort to reset relations after a planned August visit was postponed due to public outrage in Bangladesh over remarks made by ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from India. Diplomatic sources confirmed that official-level talks have resumed to firm up plans for the visit. Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi has initiated conversations and held meetings with Bangladeshi officials, including the Minister of Water Resources and an adviser to the Prime Minister, to facilitate the planning process. The visit's timing is also contingent on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's schedule. The proposed agenda is expected to include the regularisation of bilateral trade, which has been affected by political tensions, and discussions on the renewal of the Ganga Water Treaty, which is set to expire in December. Bangladesh's ruling BNP party has also stated it is reviewing all 101 memorandums of understanding signed with India.
