India and Brazil set for senior men’s friendly in Kolkata

India and Brazil are scheduled to meet in a senior men’s international friendly at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on October 3, in the first official senior men’s match between the countries. The fixture is listed to kick off at 7:30 p.m. India Standard Time. Reports published before the match do not establish a result, so the game’s outcome remains unknown in the available information. The match brings Brazil, a five-time World Cup champion, to India for a high-profile contest against a side ranked 138th in reports. Brazil is listed as fifth or sixth, depending on the report; the material does not specify a shared ranking date. For Indian players and supporters, the fixture offers a chance to see and face a prominent international team, while the scale of the challenge is reflected in the difference between the teams’ reported rankings. The friendly follows India’s 1-1 draw with Panama in a match in Bengaluru. India had been set to participate in the ASEAN Cup but withdrew after the Brazil fixture was arranged. One report says the federation initially planned to field separate squads for the tournament and the friendly before pulling out of the competition.
