India Administers Over 8 Million HPV Vaccine Doses in National Campaign

India has administered more than 8 million doses of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine under its national campaign launched in February 2026, the Union health ministry announced on Friday. The milestone marks significant progress in the country's effort to prevent cervical cancer among adolescent girls. The National HPV Vaccination Campaign, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, provides a voluntary, free, single-dose vaccine to 14-year-old girls with parental consent at government health facilities. According to the ministry, the campaign has reached a substantial portion of its target population, with several states achieving full coverage. Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Mizoram have each achieved 100 percent coverage of their identified target populations. Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, and Assam have surpassed 90 percent coverage, while Karnataka has exceeded 85 percent. Chhattisgarh, Sikkim, Kerala, Telangana, and Odisha have each crossed the 60 percent coverage threshold. Uttar Pradesh has recorded the highest number of vaccinations, with more than 2.2 million adolescent girls vaccinated under the campaign.
