IDF Weighs Legal Action Against Filmmakers of Gaza Documentary

The Israel Defense Forces are considering legal action against the filmmakers behind the documentary "NAZA," which premiered at the Venice Film Festival and alleges the military used an AI system for targeting in Gaza. IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir ordered the Military Advocate General to examine possible legal measures concerning the film and its producers, while also directing an investigation into the potential leak of classified material used in its production. The documentary, directed by Israeli filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, features anonymous testimonies from individuals described as Israeli intelligence personnel and soldiers. It alleges the use of an AI system called "Lavender" for mass surveillance and targeting, leading to civilian deaths. The film received a 25-minute standing ovation at its Venice premiere, the longest in the festival's history. Zamir convened senior commanders on Monday to discuss the film, stating it was based on "blood libels, deliberate distortions of reality, and grave, false accusations against IDF soldiers and commanders.
