Iceland Foods to Open Store in Falkland Islands

Supermarket chain Iceland Foods is set to open its first standalone store in the Falkland Islands in early December, marking a significant expansion for the company. The new branch in Stanley, the capital, is a partnership with local operator Kelper Stores, which is part of the Fortuna group. Customers will be able to purchase Iceland's own-label frozen products alongside popular brands such as Cathedral City, MyProtein, and TGI Fridays. Iceland chairman Lord Richard Walker expressed pride in backing British interests and supporting the Falkland Islanders, stating that the company has been working on the expansion for weeks. While the project was already underway, he noted that the recent increase in Argentine sovereignty claims over the islands prompted an earlier announcement of the venture. He emphasized that the company is a family-owned business with over 50 years of history, focused on bringing quality frozen food and value to the islands. Lord Walker plans to visit the Falkland Islands personally to officially open the store, which he described as a major moment for the business and its international aspirations.
