Hugh Jackman portrays a grizzled, violent version of the legendary outlaw in "The Death of Robin Hood," a film that deliberately subverts the traditional swashbuckling myth. The movie, directed by Michael Sarnoski, is set for release in UK cinemas on September 2, 2026. The film presents an older Robin Hood, described as aged, dirty, and disheveled, who is tormented by a past filled with killings. The narrative begins with a brutal skirmish that leaves him gravely wounded. He awakens in a secluded priory on an island off the coast of Northern Ireland, where he is nursed back to health by a nun named Sister Brigid, played by Jodie Comer. This encounter forces him to reckon with his violent history and seek a path toward redemption. Jackman, 57, spoke about the physically demanding shoot on location in Northern Ireland. "We were in Ireland, which I'd always dreamed of spending time in, and we went to the most beautiful places," he said. "Were some of them cold? Sure. Was there lots of mud and am I still getting mud out of various places? Sure. But it was totally worth it.
