HTC Launches Privacy-Focused VIVE Eagle Smart Glasses in US

Published 4 September 2026

HTC has launched its VIVE Eagle smart glasses in the United States, entering the competitive AI wearable market with a strong emphasis on user privacy. The device, which became available for order on September 3, 2026, is positioned as a direct competitor to Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses, offering a camera-equipped design without a screen. The VIVE Eagle features a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera capable of recording 3K video and capturing photos in a vertical format optimized for social media. The glasses are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon AR1 chip, include 4GB of RAM, and offer 32GB of encrypted onboard storage. A key differentiator is the integration of multiple AI assistants; users can choose between OpenAI's models or Google Gemini, with HTC's own VIVE AI serving as an interface. The company states that AI requests are deidentified and encrypted, and that user data is not used to train its models. Privacy protections are central to the product's design. A notification LED illuminates whenever the camera is active, and its brightness adjusts to remain visible in different lighting conditions.
