Honda and Nissan Partner on Vehicle Software and Electronics

Published 31 August 2026

Honda and Nissan have announced a joint development agreement to collaborate on core electronic control units and software for their next-generation vehicles, marking their first major partnership since merger talks collapsed in early 2025. The deal, signed on August 31, 2026, will see the two Japanese automakers standardize key components of their vehicle software architecture, with the first jointly developed systems expected in cars from the fiscal year ending in March 2030. Under the agreement, Honda and Nissan will work together on the development of core ECUs, the in-vehicle operating system, crucial middleware, and vehicle control software.
