Heavy Yemen Clashes Kill Over 300

Heavy clashes in southwestern Yemen have killed more than 300 people over several days, prompting a significant civilian displacement, according to reports on Sunday, September 6, 2026. The renewed fighting, which began escalating in the wake of Saudi Arabian airstrikes in July, has intensified concerns over regional maritime security. The latest surge in violence follows the collapse of a fragile ceasefire that had largely held since 2022. Reports indicate that fighting intensified on Friday, September 4, and continued through Saturday, September 5, with significant casualties reported on both sides. Between midday Saturday and early Sunday, sources linked to the Houthi movement reported 57 rebel fighters killed, while forces aligned with the Saudi-backed Yemeni government reported 84 militants killed in the same period. Civilian casualties have also been reported. In Taiz, four civilians were killed on Saturday by a missile strike attributed to Ansar Allah, commonly known as the Houthis. Three other civilians, all women, died in Hodeidah due to shelling from Saudi-backed forces.
