Harry Meghan UK return, royal family distance noted

Published 5 September 2026

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have recently returned to the United Kingdom for an extended stay, marking a significant development six years after they stepped down from their royal duties. The couple arrived in Birmingham with their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, and are reportedly planning to settle in the Cotswolds. Their relocation has reignited discussions about their relationships with various members of the royal family. While Harry met with his father, King Charles III, and Queen Camilla in July 2026, his relationship with his brother, Prince William, and William's wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales, remains strained. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not interacted with the Prince and Princess of Wales since Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in September 2022. Sources close to Prince William and Princess Catherine indicate that their approach to the Sussexes' return is to maintain distance. A friend of the Prince and Princess of Wales stated that their strategy remains unchanged regardless of Harry and Meghan's physical proximity, asserting that William and Catherine will continue their public service and lead by example.
