Harry Completes Charity Skydive After Promise to Veteran

Prince Harry completed a charity skydive near Toronto after promising to jump with Ed Marshall, a 102-year-old former paratrooper and Second World War veteran. Marshall was medically unable to take part, so his grandson Bailey jumped alongside Harry while Marshall remained aboard the aircraft, according to Harry’s account in an interview after the descent. The jump was intended to raise funds for Sunnybrook Veterans Centre and the True Patriot Love Foundation, organizations that support Canada’s military community. The reports did not provide a fundraising total or confirm how much money, if any, the event raised. Harry said he had promised Marshall he would make the jump after the two met at Sunnybrook’s veterans centre in Toronto last November. Marshall had previously marked his 100th birthday with a skydive and, Harry said, had been enthusiastic about jumping together. A medical evaluation determined Marshall could not safely participate this time. His grandson took his place, while Marshall watched from the plane. Harry said Marshall was disappointed not to jump but that it was good to have him aboard.
