Harris to campaign in Michigan for El-Sayed Senate bid

Former Vice President Kamala Harris is set to campaign Tuesday in Michigan alongside Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, joining a roundtable on Black maternal health in the Detroit area as Democrats work to hold a seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Gary Peters. Harris's schedule also includes a private reception with Michigan leaders hosted by Oakland County Democratic Party chair and former Representative Brenda Lawrence, where gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson is expected to speak, according to a source familiar with the matter. Later in the day, she plans to meet separately with Rev. Wendell Anthony, president of the NAACP's Detroit branch, Rev. Genetta Hatcher of The Room Church and other faith leaders at an event focused on voter turnout. El-Sayed won the Democratic primary over Representative Haley Stevens and faces former Republican Representative Mike Rogers in the general election. The contest is being watched as a test of a progressive platform's viability and as a factor in Senate control.
