Harekala Hajabba voter name issue resolved
Padma Shri awardee and educationist Harekala Hajabba has had a notice issued by election officials regarding a discrepancy in his name resolved, according to district administration statements on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. The issue arose during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Karnataka. Officials had flagged a difference between the name listed for Hajabba on the 2002 electoral roll and his current identification documents. While his name appeared as "Hajabba" in the 2002 voter list, official documents such as his Aadhaar card, ration card, passport, and Padma Shri citation now list him as "Harekala Hajabba." This discrepancy was identified during the routine verification process of electoral records. A Booth Level Officer initially visited Hajabba's residence in Harekala village on Sunday, September 6, 2026, and served him a notice. He was subsequently asked to appear at the Gram Panchayat office on Friday, September 11, 2026, with his original documents to clarify the mismatch. However, following the issuance of the notice, senior government officials visited Hajabba's home on Monday, September 7, 2026.
