Hanwha Securities tokenized securities platform developed
Hanwha Investment Securities, the brokerage arm of South Korea's Hanwha Group, has reportedly completed the development of a tokenized securities platform designed to operate on multiple blockchain networks, including Avalanche and Hyperledger Besu. The move comes as South Korea prepares to integrate tokenized securities into its existing capital markets framework, with new regulations set to take effect on February 4, 2027. The platform's development began in 2025, with blockchain technology firm FairSquare Lab collaborating on its construction. This initiative is a significant step in South Korea's broader push to establish a regulated market for tokenized assets, which will legally recognize distributed ledgers as securities registers. The Financial Services Commission (FSC) has outlined a three-stage rollout plan for the new framework. Under the initial phase, scheduled to commence with the February 2027 regulatory changes, tokenization will be permitted for privately placed money-market funds, corporate bonds, unlisted stocks issued through a trust structure, and fractional investment securities.
