Halloween Falls on Saturday as Canadian Support for Change Drops

Published 30 October 2026

Halloween falls on Saturday, October 31, 2026, as communities prepare for weekend celebrations and a range of seasonal events. In Canada, support for making Halloween a permanent Saturday observance has declined to 35%, the lowest level in a series of surveys dating to 2019, according to Research Co. president Mario Canseco. Research Co. surveyed 1,001 Canadian adults online from October 18 to 20. Support for the proposal was 41% in 2019, rose to 44% in 2022 and stood at 41% in 2024 before reaching 35% this year. The pollster said the sample was weighted by age, gender and region and reported a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points. The survey found support at 42% among men and 29% among women. Respondents aged 18 to 34 were most likely to support the change, at 43%, compared with 32% of those aged 35 to 54 and 31% of adults 55 and older. Quebec recorded the highest regional support, at 45%; British Columbia was at 32%. The proposal has been promoted as a way to reduce disruption to work and school, ease traffic risks for trick-or-treaters and give children a chance to sleep in on Sunday. The survey reports public opinion, not a change to Halloween’s date or observance....
