Haas signs Rafael Camara for 2027 F1 season
Haas has signed Rafael Camara to a multiyear deal for the 2027 Formula 1 season, making the 21-year-old Brazilian Esteban Ocon’s replacement and giving him his first race seat in the series. The announcement, made October 15, settles one place in Haas’s lineup for next season. The team has not confirmed who will drive its other car. Oliver Bearman is expected to remain, but that has not been announced by Haas in the reports. Camara is in his first Formula 2 season with Invicta and leads the championship by seven points with two rounds remaining, according to standings reported October 15. His title campaign is not yet complete. A championship would add to titles he won in Formula Regional European in 2024 and Formula 3 in 2025. Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu said Camara’s performance in a test in Portugal helped inform the decision. Komatsu praised the driver’s pace and his ability to adapt to the car with limited time. The team assessed several candidates in tests using previous Formula 1 cars. Reports named Camara, Leonardo Fornaroli, Jack Doohan and Ryo Hirakawa among those considered. Camara is also a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy.
