Haaland goal keeps Man City perfect in EPL

Published 5 September 2026

Erling Haaland scored the decisive goal as Manchester City maintained its perfect start to the Premier League season with a 1-0 victory over newly promoted Coventry City on Saturday. The win at the Etihad Stadium extended City's winning streak to three matches, placing them at the top of the league table. Under new manager Enzo Maresca, who took over from Pep Guardiola, Manchester City has reshaped its squad with significant spending. Two of the club's recent high-profile signings, Enzo Fernandez and Iliman Ndiaye, made their debuts against Coventry. Fernandez, who joined on transfer deadline day in a deal reportedly matching the British transfer record, was instrumental in City's goal. He provided a key pass to Antoine Semenyo, whose cross was headed in by Haaland in the first half for his third goal of the season. Despite the victory, Manchester City was made to work for the result. Coventry, still searching for its first point and goal of the campaign, created several notable chances.
