Guwahati woman murdered, husband arrested

A woman's partially decomposed and decapitated body was recovered from a house in Guwahati's Basisthapur area, with her severed head found inside a refrigerator, police said on Monday, September 7, 2026. The victim has been identified as Riya Talukdar Goswami, 25. Her husband, Ramanuj Goswami, has been arrested after he surrendered to police and confessed to the crime. According to officials, Goswami claimed he killed his wife in a fit of rage over an alleged extramarital affair. The couple had been married for approximately six months. The gruesome discovery was made on Sunday night, September 6, 2026, after neighbors alerted authorities to a foul smell emanating from the couple's flat. A team from the Hatigaon police station responded and found the victim's body on the floor with her head severed. The head was later discovered inside a polythene bag within the refrigerator. Investigators also reported that the victim's fingers were severed. Goswami, who works as a cab driver, reportedly surrendered to police on Monday.
