Gunmen Kill Kogi APC Chairman, Abduct Passenger on Highway

Gunmen have killed the chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Hon. Ishaq Yunusa, and abducted another occupant of his vehicle in a highway attack. The killing occurred on Thursday, August 27, 2026, along the Itobe-Ochadamu Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area, just one day after a separate assault on travellers in the same region. The Kogi State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that armed assailants emerged from surrounding bush at approximately 5 p.m. and opened fire on motorists. A blue Toyota Corolla with registration number GWA 636 CH was later found abandoned along the highway.
