Greenland establishes commission on forced Inuit contraception

Greenland announced on Friday it will establish a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to address a decades-long campaign of forced contraception imposed on thousands of indigenous Inuit women by Danish authorities. The decision follows the release of two expert reports that concluded the practice violated human rights but did not meet the legal definition of genocide. The campaign, which ran primarily from the 1960s to 1990, saw at least 4,000 Greenlandic women and girls fitted with intrauterine devices or given contraceptive injections, often without their consent.
