Greek FA joins European revolt against FIFA's Infantino

FIFA President Gianni Infantino is facing a growing revolt from major European football associations over his leadership, with the Greek Football Association becoming the latest to withdraw its support for his planned re-election bid in March 2027. The move follows a cascade of similar decisions from federations including France, England, Scotland, Wales, and the Republic of Ireland. Greek FA President Makis Gagatsis announced the withdrawal after a UEFA Executive Committee meeting in Thessaloniki, citing unacceptable events at the World Cup and Infantino's abandoned plan to sell commercial stakes in FIFA competitions to private investors. "The Greek FA EPO has taken a clear position against a candidacy of Gianni Infantino," Gagatsis told reporters. "We saw things happen at the World Cup that are not acceptable to football public opinion. Then came a programme to sell World Cup rights and we are clearly against it, so we withdrew our support of the FIFA president." The French Football Federation stated it unanimously withdrew its support, saying the conditions for that backing were no longer met due to a series of events directly involving FIFA's governance.
