Grant Morrison Slams Momoa's Lobo in Supergirl

Comic book writer Grant Morrison has delivered a scathing assessment of Jason Momoa's portrayal of Lobo in Supergirl, calling it one of the worst film performances they have ever seen, in a review published in their Xanaduum newsletter on September 20, 2026. Morrison, whose credits include Batman, All-Star Superman, Green Lantern, X-Men, Doom Patrol and Animal Man, offered a mixed verdict on the film overall. "I watched Supergirl, which wasn't terrible but wasn't especially great either," Morrison wrote, adding that the best and most moving scenes involved lead actress Milly Alcock, whom they said did a credible job. The praise for Alcock stood in sharp contrast to Morrison's remarks about Momoa. "Jason Momoa, who I was actually looking forward to, was very disappointing as Lobo," Morrison wrote. "It was, in fact, one of the worst performances I've ever seen in a film and quite baffling, as I know Momoa's not usually that bad and Lobo seems like a character made for him to play. Go figure." Morrison also faulted the film's second act, arguing that the plot fell apart over the handling of Krypto the Superdog.
