Google Rolls Out Pixel Buds Update With New Features
Google is rolling out firmware release 6.144 for the Pixel Buds Pro 2 and Pixel Buds 2a, adding sleep-aware playback controls, voice-operated audio settings, call muting and hands-free translation. The update also brings Dynamic Active Noise Cancellation, a fit-adjusting feature available only on the Pro 2, according to Google’s feature information and reports describing the release. Dynamic ANC adjusts noise cancellation based on how well the earbuds seal in the wearer’s ears. Google says the feature responds to changes in fit, helping maintain noise cancellation as the earbuds shift. The Pixel Buds 2a does not receive this feature; the other reported additions apply to both newer models, subject to their individual device requirements. The sleep feature pauses audio when the wearer falls asleep and can also disable touch controls and silence notifications. Some reports specify that a paired Pixel Watch detects sleep and triggers the changes, while other descriptions do not state that requirement. The materials available do not establish whether a watch is necessary in every supported configuration. The update adds a tap gesture to mute or unmute the microphone during calls.
