Google Rolls Out Motion Assist to Reduce Motion Sickness on Android

Google has widely released its Motion Assist feature to Pixel and Samsung phones running Android 17, a tool designed to reduce motion sickness by displaying moving shapes on the screen. The feature, which uses phone sensors to synchronize visual cues with vehicle movement, is delivered via a Google Play Services update and is now generally available. The rollout, announced by Google's Mishaal Rahman, marks the expansion of a capability first tested on Pixel devices in late August. Motion Assist is now accessible on compatible devices running Android 17, including the Pixel 11 series and Samsung Galaxy models such as the S26 FE, Z Flip 8, and Z Fold 8. The feature requires Google Play Services version 26.33.32 or later. When activated, small bubbles or shapes appear along the edges of the phone's display. These indicators move in real time using the device's motion sensors, matching the turns, acceleration, and braking of the vehicle. The goal is to align what the user's eyes see with what their inner ear senses, reducing the sensory conflict that often causes nausea during travel.
