Google Pics AI image tool rolls out to Workspace

Google has launched Google Pics, a new artificial intelligence-powered tool designed for image creation and editing, integrating it directly into its Workspace suite. The service, which began rolling out on September 1, 2026, aims to provide users with advanced visual content generation and manipulation capabilities without requiring them to leave their familiar productivity applications. Powered by Google's Nano Banana image generation and editing model, a component of its Gemini AI, Google Pics allows users to create images from text prompts or use existing visuals as a starting point. Key features include object segmentation, enabling users to isolate and modify specific elements within an image without affecting the rest of the design. The tool also supports editing and translating text directly within images, preserving original fonts and layouts, with support for 29 languages at launch. Users can generate multiple visual variations from a single prompt and upscale images to 2K or 4K resolutions. Google Pics is being integrated into Google Docs and Google Slides, allowing users to access the editor as an overlay by clicking on an image.
