Google Opens Vids AI Video Creation to Personal Accounts

Google has opened AI video generation in Google Vids to people with personal Google accounts, allowing them to create clips at no cost using its Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash model. The September 23 announcement also introduced controls for extending scenes, setting clip durations and producing or upscaling video to 1080p, although one hands-on test reported generating only 720p files. The free features are available through Vids on desktop. Users can prompt the tool with text and use its editing controls to lengthen a scene while aiming to maintain visual consistency, including its lighting, setting and characters. They can also specify a clip’s duration and upscale existing AI-generated clips, according to Google’s announcement. Mobile users can view finished projects but cannot create or edit them, according to reports on the service’s limitations. Google’s published information on personal-account quotas is not consistent across the reports. The Vids help page is cited as setting a combined allowance of six AI video clip or avatar generations per month for personal accounts.
