Google Launches Native Gemini App for Windows

Google has released a native Gemini desktop app for Windows 10 and Windows 11, bringing its AI assistant to PC users through dedicated software rather than a browser. The launch, announced on September 10, 2026, follows the release of a similar native app for Mac earlier in the year, which Google has since updated with additional voice capabilities and screen awareness. The central feature of the Windows app is quick access. Once installed, users can summon Gemini over any open application by pressing Alt and the spacebar, mirroring the shortcut on the Mac version. The floating window is designed to let people ask questions, look up information, rewrite text, draft emails, summarize documents, outline ideas, or debug code without switching between browser tabs. The app supports multimodal input, allowing users to upload files, paste documents, or share images directly into the chat window. It also includes media generation tools, with image generation handled by Nano Banana and video generation available through Gemini Omni, the latter requiring a Google AI subscription and users to be 18 or older.
