Google DeepMind has unveiled the AlphaGenome Atlas, a vast AI-powered database designed to predict the biological effects of nearly 9 billion possible single-letter genetic changes in the human genome. The release marks a significant step in understanding the complexities of DNA, particularly the 98 percent of the genome that does not code for proteins but plays a crucial role in regulating gene activity. The AlphaGenome Atlas is built upon Google DeepMind's AlphaGenome AI model and compiles a 1-petabyte dataset containing pre-calculated predictions for every single nucleotide variant. This comprehensive database aims to accelerate genomic discovery and the understanding of genetic diseases by providing researchers with immediate access to functional insights.
