Goodell contract extended through 2030 season

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has agreed to a four-season contract extension, ensuring he will remain in his role through the end of the 2030 league season. The announcement was made to National Football League owners just days before the start of the 2026 season. The new agreement, which expires on March 31, 2031, will see Goodell, who took over as commissioner in 2006, complete 24 years leading the league. By the end of the contract, he will be 71 years old. News of the extension was communicated in a memo sent by Patriots owner Robert Kraft, who chairs the NFL Compensation Committee. The memo stated that the committee had reached an agreement with Goodell to continue as commissioner through the 2030 season. It also noted that the negotiation process involved an independent third-party compensation consultant and outside counsel to structure a deal aligned with the league's long-term success. The agreement is heavily performance-based, with more than 95 percent of Goodell's total compensation tied to his and the NFL's performance against various metrics, as determined by the Compensation Committee.
