Good Good CEO and President Depart Amid Ad Backlash
Good Good CEO Matt Kendrick and President Joe Flannery have departed the golf media company following intense backlash over a controversial advertisement for a new Callaway driver. The executive shakeup, announced on September 3, marks the latest development in a crisis that has already cost the brand major partnerships and sponsorships. The controversy began on August 20 when Good Good released a 60-second promotional video for a co-branded driver with Callaway. In the ad, Good Good founder Garrett Clark pushes colleague Alexis Miestowski to the ground as she reaches for the golf club, then stands over her and says, "Do not touch my new driver." The company stated the commercial was intended as a parody of the horror film "Obsession," but it immediately drew widespread criticism for depicting violence against a woman. Both Good Good and Callaway removed the ad on the day it was released and issued apologies. Clark later described the commercial as "the worst ad known to man" in a response video, stating he does not support domestic violence or abuse. However, the fallout continued to escalate.
