Gogglebox adds new families, first Down syndrome cast member

Published 5 September 2026

The popular Channel 4 series Gogglebox returned to television screens on Friday, September 4, 2026, introducing two new families and marking a significant first for the show with its first cast member with Down syndrome. The program, known for its armchair critics offering humorous commentary on the week's television, welcomed viewers back into living rooms with both familiar faces and new additions. Among the newest participants are Newcastle brothers Steve and Mark, and London-based mother and son duo Sandy and Max. Max is the first person with Down syndrome to be featured on the BAFTA-winning series. Sandy expressed her excitement about the opportunity, calling it "total magic" and emphasizing the importance of showcasing that individuals with learning disabilities can be "smart, opinionated and hilarious." Max shared a similar sentiment, stating his goal is to "spread the love and show other learning-disabled people what we can achieve," while also humorously noting he is "much funnier than my mum." The return of Gogglebox also featured long-running favorites such as Jenny and Lee, Pete and Sophie, and the Malone family, alongside other established households.
