General Motors announced on June 9 that it is developing sodium-ion battery cells for large-scale energy storage, marking a strategic expansion beyond electric vehicles. The automaker is partnering with the U.S. energy storage startup Peak Energy, with support from a strategic investment by GM Ventures.
